Daily education for up to 100 needy children from poor families is ensured. Beside education skill courses are offered to 300 youths and young women per year in tailoring, beauty and Computer. A child emergency program (ChildLine) for children in critical life situations is a key program. Finally, we run several other programs: Disability Welfare, Outreach and Women Empowerment for more than 2,000 people. Our project is located in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh in our Keshwa Child Welfare Center.

Challenge

Uttar Pradesh is the second poorest state in India with 200 million inhabitants, one third are illiterate. Robertsganj is the capital of Sonbhadra district with 2.6 million inhabitants: 35% of them live below poverty line. 500,000 people suffer from insufficient infrastructure such as clean water, electricity, medical care. Many children have no access to healthy food, suitable clothing, adequate education and personal development, numerous go begging, work for little money or are disabled.

Long-Term Impact

Our goal is to be a contact point of trust for up to 500 children and youths and as many adults as possible in Robertsganj and the Sonbhadra district. We are also a recognized childcare and training center. We enable many children and youths to have better opportunities in their future lives and treating their families with respect. We aim to reach out to even more people by cooperating with regional training partners to skill young women in remote villages. Our motto is: LEARN - EARN - SMILE.
