Through entrepreneurship this project will provide income opportunities to 30 underprivileged single parent women from Rocinha slum in Rio. The project will provide them: ENTREPRENEURIAL EDUCATION, 250 DOLLARS IN SEED MONEY, MENTORING ON THEIR MICROBUSINESSES and 9 MONTHS OF FOOD SUPPLIES. The food supplies will relieve the women and their children of the humanitarian crisis caused by the pandemic. Empowerment and increased self esteem are other benefits this project will give these women.
Challenge
Brasil still has millions of families that live below the poverty line of 2 dollars per day. The city of Rio de Janeiro has more than 650 slums (favelas) where millions of uneducated single parent underprivileged women struggle daily to survive and to feed their children. Formal jobs in Brazil are scarce and the Covid-19 pandemic brought about a humanitarian problem where these women have no income, opportunities or a future. Millions of helpless women & children live with very little support.
Long-Term Impact
In the long term we will be truly empowering these underprivileged women and opening up their minds to new opportunities to generate income through entrepreneurship. We will be demonstrating to their young children that opportunities do exist and that hard work and perseverance do make a difference. Finally, we hope to transform these women's lives by providing them with an opportunity to grow their micro businesses and provide an income for their families.
