Every child has the right to education. RISE builds primary schools in rural Angola to educate children, empower communities and contribute to the rebuilding of the country. We target vulnerable and marginalized children who have been impacted by years of war and its aftermath, those living in poverty that face multiple barriers to education, and deserve the basics that all children deserve.

Challenge

Angola is a country where years of oppression and war left the infrastructure in ruins, where people particularly in rural areas had everything stripped from them. The 27-year civil war left a generation without education, unable to read and write. Over 2 million Angolan children do not have access to primary education.

Long-Term Impact

Education improves health, results in jobs, and empowers individuals. Educated children better understand their rights, advocate for themselves and their families, and are less likely to fall victim to exploitation. Education gives freedom, fosters vision and a desire for change. Educated children are more engaged in community issues, more apt to vote, take action, and develop into leaders who tackle problems that impact the future of their country.
