This project runs creches in Bangalore- daycare centers for children of construction workers in the age group of above 6 months and under 6 years. The objectives of creches are to provide a safe environment and to provide protection, nutritional and immunization support, and a stimulating environment for the all-around development of these children.
Challenge
The construction sector in India is one of the largest employers of labor in the country, and about 10% of the workers are women. The sector is heavily dependent on migrant workers, many of whom come to the city with their children. According to the National Family Health Survey (2015-'16), 35.5% of children under the age of five in the country are underweight, 38.4% are stunted, 21% are wasted. In the absence of support for women construction workers, children's needs are neglected.
Long-Term Impact
Improved health, growth, and linkages to government schools will enable children to grow well in their early years and access primary education in cities, and grow into successful individuals. Women could contribute more to the labor force without the guilt in their minds that children's needs are not met. Children are provided access to their right of good health, nutrition, and education through the creches
