Quality education transforms students' opportunities, and gives them a pathway out of poverty! For many children in marginalized communities, access to story books is simply a luxury. We want to change this by providing a much needed supply of story books to students to promote literacy, and connect them to a world of stories. This project will enable us to start mini library boxes in schools so that children can have access to engaging materials to enhance their learning experience.
Challenge
Schools in marginalized communities struggle to access literacy resources for their students. Only 20% of the schools we partnered with in 2019 have access to story books for their learners. In some schools, students have to share one textbook among four students or more. When students miss out on these materials we are failing to prepare them to thrive in the future. We know that books can improve children's vocabulary and better reading skills can lead to academic achievement in the long run.
Long-Term Impact
Our long-term goal is that children from under-served communities are prepared to thrive in life. Our children should be skilled problem solvers and confident communicators! We understand the value of books in learning. Reading increases our writing skills, comprehension, speaking, interpersonal skills and our understanding of the world. This project will provide 1000 story books to children, allowing them to transform their learning and achieve their goals in this 21st Century.
