'Garden to Market' is a project aimed at helping people living in poor communities in Pattaya, Thailand to grow their own food to feed their families and also earn an income through selling produce at market. These trained growers are then empowered to set up community gardens in slum areas around the city empowering more families and overcoming hunger.

Challenge

Pattaya is a city in Thailand which relies mainly on tourism as a source of income for the residents. As a result of COVID 19 travel has been severely restricted leading to no tourists and the people in the city are struggling to survive with no jobs and no government support. The lines of people waiting for hand outs of free food stretch for kilometers and it is impossible for NGO's to continue this level of support indefinitely.

Long-Term Impact

The long term effect is not only income stability and the solution to hunger but it will also impact communities as waste land will be cleaned up and used for basic agriculture. As new people are trained they are then also commissioned to train others. In this way the project will continue to expand exponentially into the future.
