Children, particularly in difficult life situations, need a constant companion, which they can confide in and who supports them. This is what the project "PaSch" (mentors for pupils) stands up for and professionally organizes the matching of an adult mentor and a child in need as well as supports them during their mentorship. PaSch develops long-lasting friendships over generations and cultures and supports children in their personal devolpement.
Challenge
PaSch is located in a district of Berlin, where 57% of the inhabitants are immigrants from many different countries, so our neighborhood is a diverse cultural melting pot. Unfortunately, the majority of the people are unemployed and therefore have few resources available. Their children are affected by growing up in mostly economically and educational disadvantaged surroundings. The project supports especially the younger children by providing a mentor to raise their educational opportunities.
Long-Term Impact
The project offers a meaningful field of commitment and brings together people of different cultures and generations in the neighborhood. Especially the mentees benefit from the mentorship by improving in school as well as their language skills. To experience, that their mentor is a person to trust, who believes in their ressources and supports them, the childrens' self-esteem raise as well as their opportunities in life. At the moment, we count 17 mentorships and have a waiting list of children
