This project will provide free daily nutritional supplements to 1000 Guatemalan preschool students living in rural communities for the next 10 months as a part of the Let's Be Ready educational program.

Challenge

Climbing malnutrition rates among children in rural Guatemalan communities are increasing the prevalence of fatal diseases and anemia. Not only do these dire health conditions pose risk of starvation, but they also hinder many students' ability to succeed in school. As a result, many youth drop out before finishing the 1st grade and never return to finish pursuing an education. This project will directly contribute to sustaining the physical and mental development of 1,000 Guatemalan children.

Long-Term Impact

Having expanded to 35 classrooms over the course of a decade, we have demonstrated proven success in combining academic and nutritional support for young students. Over 90% of our students who have completed the program and received nutritional supplements pass the first grade, compared to the national average 77% pass rate. By providing nutrition to 1,000 Guatemalan children, we will allow them to focus on their studies while preparing them to contribute back to their community in the long run.
