This project aims to address the issue of severe, acute malnutrition which is a crisis among the children of our country. Many children do not attend school as they are too hungry to concentrate, or get sent to school with empty bellies and no lunch or snacks. Through this project, we can provide food to more schools in impoverished areas, reaching more children who would otherwise go hungry.

Challenge

Recent statistics show that over 300 000 people go hungry in our city every month, the majority being children. This affects school attendance as children are merely too hungry to concentrate and thus stay home to hustle for food. Township play schools are well familiar with malnourished toddlers, many dropped off with no lunch nor snack for the entire day. In 2017 there were 226 reported child deaths due to malnutrition in our province and more than 2000 hospitalisations. This is a crisis.

Long-Term Impact

This project will be feeding more than 200 children in impoverished areas, enabling them to grow, learn and flourish.
