Child Crisis Center Uganda is improving and expanding on the Magooli Children's Education Center, so that the underprivileged children supported by the nonprofit will have an easier time accessing education in a safe, reliable and nurturing environment. There are one hundred and sixty children who currently attend the school. By adding onto the academy, all children aged 5-18 in Magooli Village will have access to the high quality education they need, clean water, latrines, and one meal daily.
Challenge
A series of events including a Civil War in the 1980's has left many men and women HIV/AIDS positive and as a result many children are living with grandparents or completely orphaned. High dependency on work in agriculture, along with large family sizes and minimal wages have left these children's guardians unable to afford to send their children to school, and when they can, the children have no other option but to go to overcrowded government schools where the education quality is very poor.
Long-Term Impact
MCEC has the potential to educate so many more children and help them rise out of poverty through education. In Uganda, only educated children are able to go on living high quality lives as adults by having the ability to find work and financially support a family. By educating the youth today, MCEC has the ability to impact this community for years and years to come; as the children will grow into working adults, raising and supporting their young with the knowledge they have gained here.
