Enhancing livelihood project (ELP) will be executed in Northern Uganda to boost food security, income, climate smart farming for 100 female grassroots small Holder Survival farmers; to rebuild their livelihood after the two decade of civil war in the region.
Challenge
Northern Uganda is recovering from civil war while still hosting over 50,000 refugees. Host communities are at risk as most aids bypasses them. Hence; there is wide disparity between the two categories. Food insecurity is affecting over 70% of households due to low agricultural productivity and resilience on few crops; Gender violence adversely affects women. Environmental degradation continues through uncontrolled cutting of trees; and widespread lumbering; mental health disease accumulates.
Long-Term Impact
Zero hunger to 100 women when local economy will be boosted, men and women coexist in harmony, income and conditions of life for households are improved, favorable markets for products created and local farmers are not exploited by middlemen. Men share roles with women, maternal and child mortality rates caused by hunger and diseases are reduced, the environment is protected, and an adverse effect of climate changed reduced and prevented. Cortege industry is promoted among rural women.
