Rotary aims to eradicate polio, a vaccine-preventable disease. Only two countries remain polio-endemic: Afghanistan and Pakistan. We have reduced cases by 99.9%, but we're not done yet. We must immunize every child to end polio forever.

Challenge

Every child deserves the right to walk, run, and play without the threat of contracting polio. Today, only two countries in the world remain polio-endemic, down from more than 125 countries in 1988. However, all of the world's children remain at risk as long as polio exists anywhere.

Long-Term Impact

Once polio eradication is achieved, it will be only the second time (after smallpox) that a human disease has been eradicated. Rotary is working to eliminate polio village by village, country by country, and continent by continent. As recently as 1988, polio was paralyzing nearly 1,000 children every day around the world. Since then, Rotary members have led the way in raising funds, advocating for government support, building awareness, and mobilizing volunteers on the ground for massive immuniz
