Seva Mandir is committed to improve the lives of rural communities in southern Rajasthan. The project aims to empower women farmers through improving their livelihoods and increasing their income. The rural and tribal women will be supported and trained on farm based livelihood activities like floriculture, vegetable cultivation and animal husbandry (Goatry & Backyard Poultry). The project will not only improve wellbeing of women but will benefit their family members especially children.

Challenge

In rural Rajasthan, women face discrimination from birth to old age due to gender inequality. 76% of these women have never attended school, leading many to be illiterate. To help support their families, they are forced to take very low-paid, unskilled jobs, or if necessary, go to exploitative and predatory money lenders. Though these women do agriculture with their families but due to the lack of resources & advanced knowledge, they follow traditional methods which give them low returns.

Long-Term Impact

Many women from tribal communities will learn advanced farming techniques and develop market linkages under the project. The capacities build under the project will help women sustain their enhanced income and give them a sense of self confidence. Further, financial independence will enable them to invest in the well-being of their families, provide better nutrition and education to their children. The project will help them find a way to come out of poverty.
