This project aims to level the playing field for rural China schools by training 100+ rural teachers and 500+ students in Human-Centered Design Thinking coupled with Project-Based Learning to gain essential skills such as Complex Problem Solving & Critical Thinking, Creativity, Team Work, Emotional Intelligence, Decision Making suggested by the 2016 World Economic Forum report to strive in 21st century. End goal: Increase rural students competitiveness to break social-economic immobility cycle.

Challenge

Inequality of learning opportunity - Though China has expanded basic education for K-12 in recent years and increased its number of college graduates in the past decade, the huge gap in educational opportunities between students from rural areas and those from cities has created a system that challenges rural students resulting the thwarting of social mobility. This phenomena is especially acute in rural schools that house 60 million plus 'left-behind' children, cared for by their grandparents.

Long-Term Impact

Equity in Education. Brings hope, instills courage, and elevates confidence. Becomes who they want to be and breaks social-economic immobility cycle. Economically and resource challenged students will be empowered with World Economic Forum suggested 21st century skills to be competitive and strive, after high school graduation, especially in the workforce. Students will be able to innovate and create with high emotional intelligence and problem solve with complex critical thinking skills.
