In the midst of an ongoing civil crisis in Cameroon, Open Dreams has opened a new Center in Cameroon's capital, Yaounde, replete with computers, desks & books, providing a safe haven for aspiring college scholars. Despite difficult circumstances, over 200+ Open Dreams scholars have achieved their dream of attaining a full college scholarship. With your help, we aim to grow our center in Yaounde, offer more housing for displaced students, & offer courses in the hard hit North to more students.
Challenge
The civil unrest in Cameroon, specifically in the English-speaking NW region, has sent many of our scholars fleeing for the safety of their lives. Many of our scholars' lives have been upended with no regular schooling offered over the past 3 years. In response to this tumultuous situation, your support has helped us to establish a second center in Yaounde and house several of our Internally Displaced students (IDPs). Help us build more housing, and offer more courses in the hardest hit North.
Long-Term Impact
"Teach a man to fish rather than give a man a fish". Our scholars are community leaders, visionaries, technologists, entrepreneurs, etc seeking to bring development and innovation to their own communities. Despite difficult circumstances that include constant power outages, over 50 of our scholars have climbed long odds to fulfill their dream of attaining a college scholarship. Educated youth go on to help others in their communities, demonstrating the 'ripple effect' of community development.
