Khadija Girls College is a state-of-the-art college facility located in a backward area of Karachi, giving access to qualiy education to the Girls from low-income families. The college has qualified faculty with science and computer labs, library, sports and other facilities. We are currently supporting the education of 290 girls studying in the fields of Science (Pre-Medical, Pre-Engineering, Computer), Humanities and Commerce and empowering young women who didn't have the chance otherwise.

Challenge

The official literacy rate in Pakistan is estimated at 58% of the total population, however, this statistic is inflated. The way to determine literacy is not through education qualification, instead, it comprises of people who can only write a few words and read the newspaper in their native language. According to estimates, the population of only Korangi and Landhi Town (a backward area of the city Karachi) is 1,213,252, out of which 10% are women with the age of 15-25 years, the target users.

Long-Term Impact

This project aims to tackle the social issue of girls' literacy. We also provide need-based scholarships to our graduates who wish to pursue university education but don't have the financial resources. The objective includes creating job opportunities for young women in a fast-moving and competitive era, providing them with a skill set that is at par with the expectations of the professional world. KGC is currently aiming to offer certified Computer courses for other girls in the vicinity.
