More than a billion people in the world today experience disability. These people generally have poorer health, lower education achievements, fewer economic opportunities and higher rates of poverty. Children with disabilities in these settings also face numerous barriers to accessing medical and rehabilitation. A community-based intervention program involving parents/caregiver within the community is a viable solution and a low cost sustainable intervention for low income people in rural India
Challenge
More than a billion people in the world today experience disability. These people generally have poorer health, lower education achievements, fewer economic opportunities and higher rates of poverty. This is largely due to the barriers they face in their everyday lives, rather than their disability. Disability is a public health issue, and children with disabilities in these settings also face numerous barriers to accessing medical and rehabilitation in rural India.
Long-Term Impact
The program is to run within the community and promote the involvement of the Parents, Family and other community stakeholders as a partner of the development process. The involvement will establish a feeling of contribution and ownership. Enhance the potentialities of Caregivers and sustainable care - priorities the development of Knowledge, skills and attitude of parents and family to support their disabled member independently.
