The project will support 220 women to have 2 chicken that will allow them to support at least 3 children's livelihoods in Sotik town, Bomet County, Kenya. Through your donation of $20, a mother will acquire 2 mature improved indigenous chicken to initiate an enterprise that will earn her income and improve her family's livelihood. By the end of this project, 220 women and 1100 indirect beneficiaries in Sotik, will have improved livelihoods contributing to improved economy, in line with SDG 8.
Challenge
High poverty levels brought about by lack of decent employment has greatly affected the livelihoods of young women in Sotik town, Bomet county, Kenya. Although the Kenyan government has rolled out jobs for the young women and youth 'Kazi kwa Vijana', the jobs do not provide decent wages. These jobs also cannot be transformed into viable enterprises in the future, thus making it difficult for young women in Sotik town to efficiently sustain the livelihoods of their children.
Long-Term Impact
The project will provide 220 young women with knowledge, training and resources needed to start up viable poultry farming enterprises, which will alleviate them from poverty and provide for their families' livelihoods for the long-term.
