With an ever changing world and economy which requires one to have knowledge in digital and soft skills, Grow Ghana seeks to empower, engage and orient students for a digital future. Having built a newly furnished IT lab with your help, we want to reach out to more students in rural Ghana. We plan to use the newly built IT lab for coding workshops and also engage in mobile training by taking our Raspberry Pi project to schools and giving students the opportunity to experience the art of coding.
Challenge
Most students in rural schools in Ghana do not have any access to computers and the internet - neither at schools nor at their homes. IT lessons are being taught theoretically on the chalkboard without any access to practical application. Furthermore, this is a missed chance to develop talents in critical thinking and structured problem-solving at young age. This lack of experience and skills prohibits underprivileged pupils to get a qualified job after graduation.
Long-Term Impact
In the beginning, the project will empower 100 students per year with job-relevant IT- and Soft Skills. In the long-term, it is inspired to build IT Labs across Ghana based on the project's standardized concept. This approach will increase the pupil's chances to get a qualified job, building a successful career and compete on the global job market. This enables the students to exit the circle of informal labour and create themselves a positive impact on the society in Ghana.
