The project consists of facilitating the inclusion of poor children with disabilities in the regular education system in Ayacucho, Peru. This will be done through a personalized follow-up to the beneficiary children, giving them sessions of academic reinforcement, continuous visits of the schools, sensitization of teachers and classmates. All this will be reinforced by the work of the multidisciplinary team of the Wasi Esperanza rehabilitation centre, that works more than 6 years in this area.
Challenge
In Ayacucho, Peru, 76% of people with disabilities haven't completed their basic studies. According to the 2017 Census, 85.5% of them only initiated primary school. This limits their possibilities of accessing a job and of improving quality of life. This project intervenes directly with poor disabled children. It facilitates their access to the regular education system and provides a personalized follow-up until their inclusion is achieved, improving their chances of a better quality of life.
Long-Term Impact
The Project will change the lives of more than 80 poor children with disabilities by providing them the necessary tools and resources to access technical schools or universities. This will expand their opportunities to be independent, improve their quality of life and enlarge the possibility to get out of the circle of poverty. Indirectly, families and teachers will also benefit from the experience and may be ambassadors of change for our society.
