We aim to provide better primary education to 60 children in Maldonaldo, Arequipa, in Peru who currently only have one national teacher. By employing more local teachers and providing materials we can give the children a much better education. Due to COVID-19 we aim to provide hand sanitizer and supplies of soap over the long-term for all our students for when they enter and leave the school each day to reassure parents that it is a safe environment.
Challenge
According to INEI an average family in this region need $75/week for basic foodstuffs and essentials, yet in reality the average income is just $20/week for the whole family leaving a shortfall of $55 each week. This low income means there isn't enough money for food, health and certainly not an education.
Long-Term Impact
Education is the key to development and that is exactly what we are aiming to provide; helping communities develop themselves out of poverty. Like many in the world who had the right start in life, a good education, food, health and a childhood, .we are aiming to give that to every child we work with. By using in-country sustainable plans these projects and the communities will learn to develop out of poverty alone, not by handouts and us telling them what to do, though by doing it themselves
