Our children come from rural, very poor and abusive backgrounds. With your aid we provide a safe haven, send them to school and empower them with life and vocational skills to become independent citizens and future role models for the South African community. Through a Child & Youth Care Centre and a Drop in Centre, we directly support about 100 vulnerable children as identified through the Social Welfare. Indirectly we impact at least 500 needy people, the majority being children.
Challenge
The community from the Waterberg district in the Limpopo province has one of the highest numbers of people living with HIV/Aids within South Africa. With this comes the problem of child / youth headed households. Together with the challenges that arise from a migrant labour system, encouraged by mining activities within the same district, there are many orphaned and vulnerable children, in desperate need of care and the opportunity to be empowered academically or with vocational skills.
Long-Term Impact
The 32 residential beneficiaries as well as 65 children within the local informal settlement will be empowered with life sustaining skills which will automatically positively influence other community members. The attitude of uselessness and incompetence together with the "poverty mind set" will be addressed. As each child is empowered, the effect is directly on their immediate and extended families and communities from which they come.
