We invite you to support the Kaliyachak Village Girls' School in rural Bihar, one of the poorest states in India. With your help and in partnership with our NGO partner in India, FORRAD, we can minimize drop-out rates and educate 350+ girls (between 6-14 years of age) in a region where only 53% of women are literate. Let's address the root causes of poverty and inequality by offering young girls in India a safe space to learn and grow. Help a girl stay in school for as little as $25.

Challenge

In India, 40+ million children under the age of 14 do not go to school. Bihar has the most out-of-school children in India, and the majority are girls. For girls in rural Bihar, there are few paths to education. Girls are not sent to co-educational schools because parents fear for their safety. Children from socially marginalized communities often feel unwelcome in regular government schools. And COVID-19 has hampered mid-day meal programs which encourage girls to remain in school.

Long-Term Impact

Education is fundamental to women's economic and political empowerment. Basic literacy and numeracy are essential skills to enable agency. Whether or not a girl goes to school -- and stays in school -- has a profound effect on her and on her future family. Staying in school longer means she will likely marry later, earn a higher wage, have a healthier family and send her own children to school. Your gift helps to create this positive ripple effect.
