Education is at the core of OYE's comprehensive youth empowerment model. This project ensures the sustainability and growth of our signature scholarship program for promising disadvantaged students in our community to complete high school and pursue higher education. 90% of scholarship students are or will become first-generation high school graduates and pave the way for the next generation in their families.
Challenge
Honduras is one of the most impoverished and unequal countries in Latin America, with over 60% of her population living in poverty. The majority of young people in Honduras do not complete secondary education, let alone receive a relevant and quality education that prepares them for a successful and prosperous future in Honduras. Without opportunities to study or work, young people are at risk of poverty, social exclusion, early pregnancy and violence.
Long-Term Impact
The transformative power of education is undeniable. This project contributes to ensuring that young people in Honduras, no matter their circumstances, have the opportunity to get an education and consequently improve their immediate and long-term economic opportunities and quality of life.
