While it is true everyone has struggled with the unprecedented impact of the Covid pandemic, it has had a more devastating impact on the girl child. As the government of Uganda plans to reopen schools after 1 year, many of the girls may not be able to resume school because they lack uniform, books, fees. FOWAC plans to dedicate International Women's Week to create hope in 150 Orphans and Vulnerable Girls in Kitgum to return to school decently, by providing them with basic scholastic needs.
Challenge
-Orphans and vulnerable girls lack scholastic material -Girls are stigmatized and are unable to socialize in school because they lack the basic needs for schooling. -High dropout rate of school girls. -Girls are denied scholastic materials by their parents and in some cases, the parents and caregivers are poor to afford the needed materials. -A deeply-rooted patriarchal society that limits the girl's capabilities and career development.
Long-Term Impact
-Girls are retained in school and reduced vulnerability caused by drop out of school like early pregnancy. -Increased number of professional women -Reduced maternal mortality rate -It contributes to the sustainable development Goal 2030 and the Uganda National affirmative action for the girl child.
