HODI works with girls to give them a voice/choice & ensure they are able to stand up for themselves overcoming FGM, Beading & Child marriages. The project will provide access to education, training and life skills through football. The girls learn her to how to say NO; they learn to be confident and know about their rights, their health while providing them with skills to transition to high school & universities. Giving 100 girls a chance to overcome poverty, illiteracy & become future leaders.
Challenge
Worldwide, 7.3 million of the births are by girls between the age of 15 and 19 years of which two million births of this are by girls under the age of 15. According to UNPF of the two million births, 90 per cent of them are already in marriage. More alarming is that 26 in every 100 girls in Kenya are married before they reach 18 years. The girls are not guaranteed basic right to education & are vulnerable to drop out of school and be child mothers making the pastoralist girls more at risk.
Long-Term Impact
HODI will provide access to basic education 25 girls in 10 secondary schools allowing them to rise above the risk of child marriages, FGM & beading. This will enable them to help support themselves and their families thereby breaking the cycles of poverty. It will also provide the girls with football skills that will enable them to conquer their body mind and soul. They will be great women leaders who are confident & are better decision makers as we build resilient communities in Northern Kenya
