On June 22, 2022, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck the central region of Afghanistan, impacting Paktika and Khost provinces, claiming the lives of more than 1,000 people, injuring 1,500, and affecting an estimated 30,000 and counting. ActionAid is on the ground and will be working in the affected areas to address people's immediate needs, supplying food and water in the short term and assessing what support will be needed in the longer term, including cash transfers.

Challenge

This has come at a time when people in Afghanistan were already facing a hunger crisis, with nearly 20 million Afghans facing acute hunger. Coupled with a lack of health infrastructure, the earthquake has the potential to be devastating.

Long-Term Impact

ActionAid's response is community-driven and rights-based, which means your donation today invests in change that lasts. ActionAid's support provides both short-term crisis response as well as long-term resilience building.
