The BEAUTY FOR ASHES PROJECT empowers and educates the most vulnerable women living in extreme poverty in Nigeria specifically: Survivors of sexual and domestic violence, Women and girls with disabilities, Internally displaced women and girls and Unemployed Widows. The project offers succor and opportunity for vulnerable women to rebuild their lives through Skill acquisition, Small business grants, Education Scholarships, Food, Clothing, Hygiene & Sanitary supplies and Temporary housing.
Challenge
There is a high level of poverty in Nigeria. Over 70% of its citizens live below $1.65 a day. Women mostly bear the brunt of the unfavorable economic condition of the Nation due to unequal access to education or economic opportunities, compared to their male counterparts. Consequently women and girls are vulnerable to sexual and domestic violence, emotional and psychological abuse. The situation is worse for our project beneficiaries whose peculiar circumstances makes them worst-hit.
Long-Term Impact
This project will contribute immensely to poverty reduction, reduction in sexual and domestic violence and reduction in emotional trauma and depression amongst project beneficiaries. This will in turn have a positive impact on the lives of their children and family members whose conditions of living will improve as the women become financially and emotionally stable. This project also contributes to gender equality in Nigeria by giving more women the opportunity to earn a living and education.
