The job situation in Afghanistan is catastrophic - especially for women. We are therefore planning to launch a completely new project this fall: a training program for young women in Kabul to become jewellery makers, thus giving them prospects for the future beyond school education. In order to completely secure the project financially, we need your support: Together with the Aurora Borealis Foundation, there is currently a campaign running, where you can double your donations for the project!

Challenge

Visions for Children's many years of project work in schools led to an awareness of the limited opportunities available to female school leavers in Afghanistan - their chances of finding a qualified training opportunity or a job are often slim. The situation has even worsened since the Taliban took power: Women are no longer allowed to work in some professions and, in some provinces, are not allowed to attend secondary schools.

Long-Term Impact

The training program is designed to offer young women in Afghanistan prospects for the future and an education beyond school. In this way, the women are encouraged in their self-determination and independence and they can serve as role models for other women in their environment. In addition, the project serves to strengthen the local economy and to honor the traditional blacksmith's profession, which offers sustainable job opportunities, as demand for the craft is very high.
