Jharkhand, a state located in eastern India, is facing a severe water crisis. The state is primarily dependent on groundwater for its water supply, but due to various factors such as rapid urbanization, industrialization, deforestation, and over-extraction of groundwater, the state is facing a severe shortage of water. The capital city of Jharkhand, Ranchi is facing a severe water crisis. There is a scarcity of drinking water. Half of Jharkhand is Drought-Hit. Koderma, Khunti, and Garhwa district’s situations are the worst. As per the report of 2018, Jharkhand recorded a deficit of 28% of rainwater. There is no water in hand pumps and ponds. The government also failed to provide water. People don’t have water for drinking.

Some of the main causes of the water crisis in Jharkhand are:

1. Over-extraction of groundwater: The state's groundwater is being over-extracted to meet the demands of the growing population and industries, leading to a depletion of the water table.

2. Deforestation: The state has experienced massive deforestation in recent years, which has led to a decrease in rainfall and the drying up of rivers and streams.

3. Climate change: Climate change has also played a role in the water crisis, with irregular and inadequate rainfall leading to drought-like situations in many parts of the state.

4. Poor water management: The state has a poor water management system, with inadequate infrastructure and a lack of water conservation practices.

The water crisis in Jharkhand has severe consequences for the people living in the state, particularly for those living in rural areas who are heavily dependent on agriculture. Water scarcity has led to crop failure, food insecurity, and migration to cities in search of work and water.
