This project will help build decent housing for families in Uraba, where people have been gravely affected both by natural disasters and the armed conflict in the area, providing them stability, roots and belonging in the countryside, avoiding migration to cities. It will also finance training and education allowing family strengthening transforming their environment and community in general, and the implementation of ventures, in order to enable comprehensive changes in their living situation.
Challenge
In San Juan de Uraba 3,000 victims of the winter waves and armed conflict were identified in 2010, its population has great socio-economic difficulties, more than 75% of the people live in poverty, it also has 3,689 households with unsatisfied basic needs, in precarious conditions, occupying places built with non-durable materials, in high-risk geological areas, with high levels of overcrowding, without access to public services, and even without sanitary services.
Long-Term Impact
The Project will build 30 decent housing this year that will benefit approximately 240 people, not only by providing a new home but also by impacting their community providing them with a set of new skills and values generating social capital and community empowerment, through the implementation of the strategy of Family Strengthening and income generation. With your help we will finance part of one of this new homes and the family program.
