In Una mano para Oaxaca, we are implementing a long-term post- COVID-19 crisis program that allows our indigenous communities in Oaxaca to recover from the economic recession and to regain foothold in the community.

Challenge

We are zapoteca indigenous who are still reconstructing our communities from the 2017 earthquake. As we are a vulnerable group the effects of COVID-19 have had a huge impact on us. 58% of the population lives in poverty and some of them lack a place to live. The pandemic affected our access to food because many communities established roadblocks during several months to reduce contagions. This extreme measures are resulting in diverse social conflicts that are intensifying the economic affectat

Long-Term Impact

Ancestral knowledge and cultural traditions maintain communities united. Together we can impulse sustainable activities based on circular economy models assisted by technology. Boosting this model we can help up to 150 women to develop strategies that allow zapoteca indigenous communities to achieve the good living.
