As of April 28, 2021, Japan's COVID-19 death toll surpassed 10,000 and the total number of confirmed cases topped 577,000. Surges in confirmed cases strain the local medical systems and facilities everywhere require additional support. Additionally, the pandemic has caused other issues including increase in domestic violence, mental health problems, and more. Therefore, Civic Force and our partners are strengthening our response activities in Japan to counteract the effects of the virus.

Challenge

Declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO), COVID-19 is rapidly spreading worldwide, especially in Japan. People need essential supplies such as masks and gloves to protect themselves and others from the coronavirus. Medical facilities are also facing shortages of basic protective supplies. Additionally, people recovering in disaster-affected communities are more vulnerable to being affected by the pandemic.

Long-Term Impact

This project will provide for the immediate needs of the hospitals that are lacking in essential medical supplies. It will also support the local organizations that know and understand the complex needs existing in disaster-affected communities. The long-term impact is the containment of the virus so that less people will be infected and expediting the recovery of disaster-affected communities.
