Faraja staff have a vision. For all adults and children, diagnosed with cancer in Kenya, to be able to access the right medical treatment at the right time. A big problem needs a big solution. The goal is to raise at least 100 million Kenyan Shillings within 2 years. A powerful pool of funds, called the Faraja Cancer Support Fund, invested to generate life-saving medical grants for generations to come. Giving hope and a real chance of recovery to thousands. Challenge

Cancer statistics in Kenya are scary with 14 oncologists for a population of 42 million, and just 1 in 10 children surviving. Faraja's psycho-oncologist Philip sees the harsh reality of this every day and says "a cancer diagnosis is traumatic, but when the treatment plan is out of reach financially and state hospital wait lists are over a year long - it becomes hopeless. Unfortunately most don't make it, and there's a great deal of suffering. At least 39,000 people are diagnosed every year.

Long-Term Impact

Put simply the larger the Fund, the more people we can help. There will be an annual distribution of around 5% - enough to fund 167 weeks of radiation or 167 chemotherapy cycles every year. Behind the statistics, are real people. Some of the faces our Pilot Project has supported include Susan, Enza, Nelson, Vincent, Chris, Wycliff, Jackie, Monica and little Kevin, aged 2 to 72.
