This project will support veterans and those in the process of leaving (or were about to do so before the pandemic) the emergency services. Many veterans have come out of retirement to help tackle the crisis and it is those, in particular, who will be helped through this project. FirstLight Trust will provide tools, resources and therapies to ensure they are supported and able to deal with the current and future situation; in particular the emotional, mental and physical fall out.

Challenge

Many health workers are putting their own health at risk to protect the broader community at the forefront of Covid-19 response. Many will likely experience trauma as well as money and housing issues as a result of the crisis. Money troubles and debt can have serious negative impact upon mental health and general wellbeing. There is also the added stress to the family unit where many workers have been unable to see or support their own families due to the risk of infection.

Long-Term Impact

FirstLight Trust is there to support paramedics, police officers and firefighters who have left or are leaving the emergency services, numerous of whom are currently working on the front line of the Covid-19 crisis. For many, the effects of the crisis will be long lasting. This project will ensure that the right support is in place for those who need it, whether that is now or in years to come.
