This Community Resilience Programme will build community resilience in the rapidly changing situation of rural Nepal as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The project will provide awareness on health and hygiene practices, the dangers of child/ women trafficking and alcohol abuse, domestic/family violence and promote sustainable agriculture as well as the importance of environmental protection.

Challenge

As migrant workers return to Nepal following COVID -19, with no job prospects, they are reunited with their family, in extremely challenging circumstances. This results in increased alcohol abuse, domestic and family violence. Traffickers take advantage of impoverished families luring innocent young children and women to a terrible fate. The programme will support 9 vulnerable villages in Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot including families and the extended community. Total population in project: 8600

Long-Term Impact

Community Development Clubs will remain active beyond the project period to develop a long- term sense of pride. They will collaborate with the programme to continue community development and monitor key issues over time. Using animators and different mediums, including street theatre, story-telling and other interactive methodologies effective long- term change will be achieved. Increased awareness on the dangers of trafficking, domestic and violence will protect the most vulnerable.
