The clean plate nutrition project will create a food bank full of nutritious foods to help end malnutrition in children from low-income and rural areas in Kenya. This project will create awareness on nutrition for children and will give a special focus to children with disabilities and Neurodevelopmental conditions. Every quarter, selected households with children who have disabilities and those from low-income areas will receive food packages, training, and facilitation for mini home gardens

Challenge

In Kenya, more than a quarter of children under the age of five have stunted growth due to malnutrition. Children from low-income areas and especially those with disabilities are the most affected. This poses health challenges such as obesity, stunted growth, Rickets, and others. Parents of children with such challenges do not have stable sources of income to enable them to provide for their children.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide food packages continuously every quarter to over 300 families and teach them skills to set up home gardens to grow nutritious vegetables and foods. There will be a better understanding of nutrition based on the local community's cultures and just using the foods within the community to provide balanced diets meals.
