CEF's Food Pantry & Delivery Program provides free groceries to people who are currently homeless or housing insecure in Durham, NC. The 1,320 Members served by CEF's Durham office have access to the program. Members can pick up food of their choosing in person or request for it to be delivered to a location of their choice.

Challenge

According to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern, North Carolina, 16.5% (49,600 people) are food insecure in Durham County, NC. The Durham County Community Health Assessment found that food insecurity is higher for low-income families. People experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity are particularly vulnerable to food insecurity.

Long-Term Impact

CEF's seeks long-term social & economic justice to eradicate the racial wealth gap and ensure equal access to affordable housing. By helping Members access necessary grocery items, they are able to invest their limited financial assets in other necessities such as housing, access to transportation, and health care. Since 2009, CEF has worked with 3,789 Members, helping 944 Members secure affordable housing, 1205 Members secure employment, and supporting 836 Members in saving over $1.3 Million.
