The joined project of AGAPE and SOLENCA associations aims is to build a suitable safe refuge center to save kids of Douala from the streets' danger (begging, street selling, lack of education, delinquences, smoking, drugs, child exploitation...) who are currently living in a house rented in the New Bell neighborhood (17 boys including 5 residents) The new center, designed to welcome 34 + children will be built in the Japoma neighborhood in Douala, on a 1500 m piece of land acquired in 2016.

Challenge

The AGAPE Center has opened its doors to try to respond to the needs for safe space of the youth it cares for today. It settled in a house in Bonapriso, then in Ngangue - New Bell, in the premises he currently occupies. These different houses plus their rent have successively proved small to accommodate the youth effectively. Hence the need to consider the acquisition of land for the construction of a more adapted structure. The good news today is that, we have already acquired a piece of land.

Long-Term Impact

The AGAPE Association and Center aim to ensure the sustainability of this project and its activities, it is for this reason that the construction of a structure specific to the organization has been envisaged. We are considering to extend the structure over time to accommodate more children and help other targets such as teenage girls and mothers with babies. In order to make AGAPE one of the references, with regard to supervision, accompaniment and reintegration of street and vulnerable youth.
