Help establish for the first time a medical clinic in Awake Village of Northern Uganda to provide life-saving healthcare to its residents. Each month residents, often children, die needlessly due to lack of basic medical care Join us to build a clinic and provide a system of health education outreach focusing on issues of sanitation, hygiene, and food preparation and storage. Education will substantially reduce chronic illness of diseases such as malaria and HIV/AIDS.
Challenge
AUCF was established in 2007 by two-time Olympic runner Julius Achon in response to the dire situation faced by the residents of his home village in Otuke County (Orum district) in Northern Uganda. Ravaged by the brutal Lord's Resistance Army during Uganda's two-decade civil war, and more recently, touched by famine caused by drought, the region's residents are struggling in the face of truly inadequate living conditions, and many children have been left without family.
Long-Term Impact
The three-year goals of AUCF are: 1. To establish a medical clinic in Awake Village, Otuke County to provide life-saving healthcare to its residents and those of the surrounding community. 2. To establish a system of health education outreach focusing on issues of sanitation, hygiene, and food preparation and storage. 3. To build and staff a pre-school providing early-childhood education to the youngest residents of Otuke County and the surrounding community.
