Pintando Caminos empowers vulnerable youth in impoverished neighborhoods at Bogota (Colombia) to change their cycle of poverty and history of violence by generating spaces that provide over 1O0 boys and girls education and recreational opportunities, learning skills as well as nurture and love.

Challenge

In 2014, 30% of Colombians were living in poverty, and 8% live in "extreme poverty," with an increasing percentage of that population living in urban slums (http://www.dian.gov.co/) The children in the neighborhood of Potosi, Bogota, are growing up without access to adequate nutrition, a good education, or work, and must at the same time cope with difficult family lives, the presence of drugs and gangs right outside their homes, and complicated health problems.

Long-Term Impact

The children who benefit from our work will be capable of changing their cycle of poverty, overcoming the difficulties present in their environment, and succeed at becoming valued and supportive human beings, capable of earning a living decently - with the goal that they multiply in their communities, in their productive lives, and in the country more generally.
