Region: India

Healthy forests mean healthy people. Forests provide everyone with health benefits, including fresh air, nutritious foods, clean water, and space for recreation. Worldwide, around 1 billion people depend to some extent on forest foods, such as wild meat, edible insects and plant products, mushrooms, and fish. Letting trees grow back naturally could be key to restoring the world's forests. Natural regeneration or rewilding is an approach to conservation. Natural regeneration doesn't mean taking any action, though it can mean getting rid of manmade structures and restoring native species that are in decline. This would include planting native trees along with the protection of ancient woodland. Globally, natural forest regrowth could absorb a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions every year. And all at a fraction of the cost of manual tree planting.

Raising awareness about the importance of forests and the impacts of deforestation and forest degradation can help to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among individuals and communities towards forest conservation. Also, encouraging sustainable land use practices such as conservation agriculture, crop rotation, and integrated pest management can help to reduce the need for deforestation and promote soil health. Restoring degraded lands through reforestation, soil conservation, and other techniques can help to bring back ecosystem services and promote ecological resilience. Encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to plant trees can help to increase forest cover and promote ecological diversity.
