The project is to build second phase of 40 bed health facility in Zambulkura, recruit health professionals to provide quality care to 10000 people in 9 villages. Pregnant women, sick children, snakebites and emergencies will get quick access to care and reduce complications due to delays. The current 5% supervised hospital deliveries will increase to 95% within a year of operation to enhance safe child delivery. The facility will serve as immunization center and training of mothers on nutrition.

Challenge

Zambulkura and 9 nearby villages in the East Mamprusi District in Ghana lack access to health care services. The nearest hospital is located in Nalerigu, the regional capital .Distances from the villages to the hospital range 20km-40km and sick people have to walk or carried on stretchers to the hospital. By the time they get to the hospital there is always crowd and they are not able to access care same day, but getting places to sleep in Nalerigu and continue the next day becomes a challenge.

Long-Term Impact

The project will provide quick quality healthcare services to a total of 10000 people from 9 communities. This will allow early diagnose of sicknesses and treatment to prevent complications leading to permanent deformities or deaths especially during prolong child birth. It will serve as an immunization center for children in these villages to get the chance to be immunized against many diseases, hence improvement of their health status. And also help reduce the burden on the Nalerigu hospital.
