Mundo de Talentos offers free vocational guidance for children between 10 and 13 years, in Chiapas and Oaxaca, Mexico. Every year, 200 girls and boys from public schools will participate and discover their interests and talents. In this way they will become better prepared for their own futures. Passionate professionals share their work experience with the children and invite them to engage in group exercises and excursions, including subjects as broad as biology, arts, medicine, and tourism.
Challenge
Every day, 1,800 students drop out of Mexican high schools, most of them in the first year. Out of every 10 students entering a university, only two finish with a degree. Moreover, around 7 million youngsters in Mexico are unemployed and receive no education at all. An important reason for these staggering statistics, is that youth in many regions has not received appropriate vocational training. Adequate vocational training helps to decrease drop-out rates.
Long-Term Impact
The potential long-term impact aimed for by this project includes three aspects of the students development: better future prospects, improved self-awareness, and a feeling of more connectedness with society. Mundo de Talentos aims to reach these three goals by connecting a program of academic and artistic subjects with the enhancement of socioemotional skills of youth. This way the project motivates them to become responsible and strong actors of society who are prepared for their own futures.
