Education for the Children helps support La Escuela de Esperanza (The School of Hope) in Jocotenango, Guatemala. We focus on providing an education, healthy nutrition, clean water, medical care, and psychological support to more than 600 students and their families. These funds will help us cover the costs of nutritious food, qualified teachers, necessary school supplies, psychological therapy and support, vital medications, and water filters.
Challenge
Low education rates in Guatemala perpetuate a cycle of poverty. Only 60% of Guatemalans complete 5th grade. Many children are not able to attend school because they must work to earn money. When kids go to school, 46% of them are malnourished, and many of them suffer the psychological consequences of poverty and trauma. This project provides healthy food, psychological support, healthcare, family help, and education to 600+ students and graduates in Jocotenango, Guatemala.
Long-Term Impact
We will be able to provide the nutrition, medical care, and mental heath support necessary so that our 600+ students can continue receiving a quality education to ensure that they have the skills necessary to break the cycle of poverty for themselves and their families. We know that students who are sick, hungry, anemic, dehydrated, or experience psychological distress simply can't be successful at school, which is why we are currently focusing so heavily on health and nutrition.
