This project will provide health interventions and treatments for pregnant females and infants in the rural community of Borgne, Haiti. Maternal and infant medical care, made possible by your donations, will help improve life expediencies in Borgne, which are about half of that of the United States. Your donation will help improve their infant mortality rate (currently at levels to match the poorest of nations in the world).
Challenge
From a distance, Borgne appears to be a picturesque seaside community with beautiful beaching and a lush river. Up close, the 100 square mile community hosting 80,000 residents, shows the struggles and hardships living in extreme poverty. Residents have limited access to health care in their rural community. Infant mortality is high and life expectancy is half of developed countries. Women and children are the most vulnerable with diseases of TB, malnutrition and infections.
Long-Term Impact
We believe the best solutions for achieving a meaningful impact in Haiti are rooted directly in the community. Maternal and infant care will provide a better outcome for the entire community and for future physical and social well-being. A healthier family unit will optimize learning, work, self-sufficiency and survival.
