ABCs and Rice is a school that provides free education, food, medical and dental care for 220 needy children and their families in Cambodia. In addition, it provides supplies, shoes, socks, uniforms and transportation for these children aged 4 to 16 y.o. This program also grows its own produce and operates a fish farm to help feed the students.

Challenge

Today more than 40% of the population lives on less than $2 a day. Ninety percent of the poor live in rural areas and female- headed households are amongst the poorest. These Cambodians have an average of 5.1 years of education. There are high levels of malnutrition.

Long-Term Impact

Feeding these 220 children in Cambodia, and sending rice home to their families is saving these peoples' lives. Not only is ABCs and Rice improving the health of several hundred people, it is also providing an education. Two of our first graduates are in medical school and another is training to be a chef.
