Over 50% of those infected by HIV/AIDS in Rwanda are women. This project addresses the need to avail 500 women from Kamonyi District with life supporting skills to fight stigma, discrimination and empower them with their lively hoods and income generating activities through basketry weaving, livestock rearing and farming so as to adopt a pro-life and positive attitude and to face the future with hope and confidence.


Challenge

Alarming number of women in Kamonyi District in Rwanda live in dire misery and poverty because of neglect, isolation, stigma and discrimination due to their HIV/ AIDs Status. It is worse for young women whose husbands have died because of the disease, in-laws tend to grab and confiscate the deceased property alleging that the woman had brought a curse in the family HIV/AIDS prevalence has been increasing over the years in Kamonyi partly due to war-related and partly to other consequences of th

Long-Term Impact

The project will be an opportunity for these discriminated and vulnerable women to attain skills and be rehabilitated re integrated & become an integral part of society, to stand on their own feet, improve their children's lives, gain acknowledgement, respect from family & society, not only as beneficiaries but also as contributors to the growth
