You can help Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley area kids from working poor families attend the Boys & Girls Club. The Club opens the door to a great future for youth with: Academic support, including homework help, tutoring, computer lab access, technology education, and enrichment programs; arts programs like theater and music; fitness programs like sports leagues, martial arts classes, dance, and gymnastics; life skills and leadership programs; and nationally accredited preschool.

Challenge

Children whose families are living in poverty deserve the same advantages as their more affluent peers and parents need care they can count on so they can go to work. But, quality childcare, tutoring, computers, arts programs, sports leagues - these are all out of reach for families who are struggling to pay the rent and put food on the table. This is especially true in the Oak View neighborhood, the site of a new Boys & Girls opened in October 2012, where the average income is about $14,000.

Long-Term Impact

1,000 children will participate in free or reduced price Boys & Girls Club programming each year, totaling more than $400,000 in scholarships. Kids will spend their time in a positive environment, learning skills they need to succeed in school and in life. More than 80% of kids report improved grades at school. Parents can work, knowing their kids are safe and well cared for - 84% of parents in the scholarship program say they couldn't work at their current job without the Club's programs.
