This project will help 2,000 rural students mainly in 21 remote schools in Bandarawela to face their current challenge of buying school essential items to go to school. The parents face this challenge as the prices of school essential items have increased by more than 150% due to the current economic crisis in our country. The situation since the Covid-19 has aggravated
Challenge
The pandemic, not only replaced face-to-face instructions with hybrid and remote learning instructions, but also drastically affected the economic stability and physical health of many families in rural communities. New method of learning has led to compounded difficulties in rural areas, where students struggle with internet connectivity, and also have less resources and direction from their parents. We envisage that this will contribute towards widening the disparities with urban schools.
Long-Term Impact
The project will provide an opportunity for students in 21 remote schools to obtain their basic school essentials which have become a huge difficulty due to the current economic crisis. This support will help them to continue with their education for the next year.
